Lecturer with a specialisation in Nutrition and Captive Animal Welfare/ Behaviour

The Bristol Zoological Society runs a number of Higher Education programmes in collaboration with the University of the West of England, the University of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, and the University of Gloucestershire. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team. Your role will be crucial in helping us deliver excellent Higher Education programmes, particularly on courses related to animal nutrition.

All applicants must have a PhD in zoology or a related science (preferably with a focus on nutrition) and HE teaching experience.  The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of animal welfare in captive settings, animal behaviour and/ or enrichment.  Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication are essential.

Main Duties:

  • Lead on the delivery of one FdSc, BSc or MSc module and contribute to others where appropriate
  • Supervise and mark BSc and MSc students’ research projects
  • Write up BSc and MSc projects as peer-reviewed scientific journal articles
  • Contribute to the development and management of BZS’ projects, particularly zoo-based nutrition and diet focussed projects in conjunction with our vet and animal teams
