Animal Keeper- Wild Place Project

Maternity Cover - 12 months Fixed Term

Full Time 37.5 hours per week

Salary Range £16,286 to £18,903 per annum depending on experience and qualifications  

Bristol Zoological Society is recruiting for the position of an experienced Animal Keeper for Wild Place Project. This is a full-time position to cover a period of maternity leave which is likely to last for 12 months. You will be working 37.5 hours per week as part of the departmental rota which will include weekends and bank holidays.  

Wild Place Project is a growing attraction; we are currently building a new exhibit, opening in July, which will see brown bears, wolves, lynx and wolverine returning to woodland that historically they once roamed.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience working with a variety of zoo species and previous knowledge and experience working within a zoological collection. It would be desirable if applicants are holding either the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals, or a relevant degree with appropriate experience. Applicants should have excellent communication skills, be hard working, a good team player and have an enthusiastic, outgoing personality. A full driving licence is desirable.  

The successful candidate will be working across all the animal sections at Wild Place Project on a rota system. This will include hoofstock, primates, carnivores and birds. The role covers all aspects of modern-day zoo keeping including daily husbandry routines, animal training, environmental enrichment, talks and guest experiences.
