School visit FAQs

If you can’t find an answer to your question below, please email [email protected] or call 0117 428 5300.

For our general, non-education specific FAQs, see here.

What resources do you offer visiting schools?

We've just launched and exciting range of educational resources to support your visit. Click here to see the full range of resources available.

How do I make my booking?

To make your booking please email [email protected]. Your booking isn’t confirmed until we send you a booking confirmation email.

How far in advance can I book my visit?

We’re now accepting bookings for any date in the 24/25 academic year. Please get in touch to book your place.

Are schools able to book any time of arrival throughout the day?

Yes, schools can book to arrive at any time during our normal opening hours. To get the most from your visit we recommend arriving as early as you can — the zoo opens at 10am.

Can I request an invoice as part of the payment process?

Yes. Let us know how you’d like to pay when you book your visit.

Can I have a refund if members of the group don’t visit?

If the number of students and/or accompanying adults on the day is fewer than the number you’ve booked, you need to tell us when you arrive. If we know, we can update your invoice accordingly. If you don’t tell us about any changes when you arrive, we’ll charge you for the number you originally booked.

How many free adult tickets are school groups entitled to?

We offer one free adult ticket for every three students for Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1. We offer one free adult ticket for every seven students for Years 2 and above. While at the zoo, students aged under 14 must be supervised at all times.

Am I able to pre-book an indoor space for lunch?

Unfortunately, we can’t offer a bookable indoor lunch space at this time. There are lots of picnic areas around the site, but undercover seating is limited. Ask a member of staff on the day to suggest suitable lunch spots and make sure your group brings suitable clothing for the weather!

Can schools attend the animal talks and feeds?

School groups are welcome (and encouraged!) to attend animal talks and feeds. The talks are delivered by the same specialist learning team that deliver our taught education sessions so you’re sure to learn lots and have fun.

Are there play areas we can use?

There are play areas and equipment around the zoo that school groups are welcome to use – please see the map for more information.

Can I visit the Zoo beforehand to carry out a risk assessment?

Two free teachers per booking are entitled to make a pre-visit, subject to availability. This visit needs to be booked in advance by emailing [email protected] or calling us on 0117 428 5300.

If you wish to bring additional friends or family members with you on your pre-visit, you must pay for their entry to the zoo.

We also have a template risk assessment you can use, found here.

I have a further query, how do I get in contact?

Please email the team on [email protected] with your query and contact details, and we will come back to you as soon as we can.
