Bristol Zoological Society to row for conservation in dragon boat race

Bristol Zoological Society will be rowing for conservation in the Sue Ryder Dragon Boat Race this Sunday (14th September).

Bristol Zoological Society will be rowing for conservation in the Sue Ryder Dragon Boat Race this Sunday (14th September). The Society’s directors and other staff members will be donning animal costumes and taking to the water for the annual Bristol boat race.

The Society’s directors and other staff members will be donning animal costumes and taking to the water for the annual Bristol boat race. 

CEO of Bristol Zoological Society, Dr Bryan Carroll, said: “We are very much looking forward to taking part in this year’s dragon boat race and whilst we expect the day to be very enjoyable, we will be raising money for an important cause.”

Bristol Zoological Society is involved with more than 100 co-ordinated breeding programmes for threatened wildlife species and supports 13 projects in the UK and around the world that conserveand protectsome of the world’s most endangered species.

Since Bristol Zoo Gardens opened its doors to the public in 1836, it has helped save over 175 species from extinction through breeding programmes and established over 30 field conservation and research projects all over the world.

The Zoo team will have its own stand at the event on the Bristol Docks and will be offering face painting for those watching the race.

Dr Bryan Carroll added: “We hope to see as many members of the public there as possible. It is set to be a fun–filled day, with a charitable objective at its core.”
