Gibbon Island

Gibbon Island is home to a pair of Agile gibbons (Hylobates agilis) Samuel and Duana. Agile gibbons are from Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand) and are found in tropical rainforest and dry tropical forest.

Gibbons live for 25 -30 years and once they find a partner they mate for life and pairs can often be heard singing to maintain their bond and to claim their territory.

Adult agile gibbon males have white cheeks; see if you work out which one is the male.

Did you know that gibbons are apes like us?
