Spaces are still available on two summer fun events for children and families, being offered by the Avon Gorge & Downs Wildlife Project.
‘Treasure troves and felt flowers’ on August 5, and ‘Ladybird spotters’ on August 19, aim to get youngsters out and about, and offer the opportunity to discover the wildlife of the Downs through fun games and craft activities.
On August 5, children will be challenged to discover the whereabouts of the long-lost Bristol onion in the Treasure troves and felt flowers event. They’ll follow clues on the wildflower trail discovering fascinating facts about flowers along the way. The goal will be to find a treasure chest containing a map that will guide them to the location of the Bristol onion (which grows in the Avon Gorge and nowhere else in the UK). In the afternoon participants will be getting very messy making felt flower pictures.
On August 19, children will be joining forces with staff from Bristol City Museum to become Ladybird spotters. The children will spend a morning searching for these brightly coloured little insects and playing fun games to discover how they live. In the afternoon they will have the chance to make ladybird homes to help the creatures survive the winter
Both summer holiday events are for children aged 8 – 12 years old and run from 10am – 3.30pm. The cost is £8.50 per child (they will need to bring a packed lunch). Meet at Bristol Zoo Gardens, booking is essential as places are limited.
