Healthy eating will be the theme of Bristol Zoo Gardens’ half term activities next week.

Apples, carrots, pears, broccoli and lettuce will be on the menu for many of the Zoo’s animals as children who bring one of these five pieces of fruit or vegetable will be able to get entry into the Zoo for the discounted rate of £5.

A pair of tiny monkeys at Bristol Zoo has just had their fourth baby, keepers have announced.

The baby Goeldi’s monkey is just two weeks old and is only around 10cm long. Despite being so tiny, the petite primate can be seen clinging on to its mother’s back in the zoo’s tropical Zona Brazil exhibit.

Silky wave moths inhabit areas of limestone grassland and rocky outcrops on the south or south-west facing slopes of the Avon Gorge. The only other places these moths are found, in the UK are the Gower in south Wales and the Great Orme in north Wales.

No one in Bristol can have failed to spot the Wow Gorillas last summer. In July 2011 61 multi-coloured and life-sized gorillas sprang up in the streets and parks of Bristol with the challenge to track them all down! The gorilla trail was an amazing success and Bristolians took the gorillas to their hearts, with the internet and social networking sites swamped with photos, blogs and tweets ever since!

For almost a year a pair of black widow spiders concealed themselves in the bodywork of a 1964 Ford Falcon, imported by Bicester-based motorsport company, Damax. The spiders were only discovered when the bodywork of the car was stripped for restoration.
