Animal Husbandry Work Experience Placements (1 week only)
We will be running a limited programme from
Monday, 29th June 2015 until Friday 28th August 2015
Applications far outnumber available places. Priority will be given to students from our local area as this is a service that we provide for the local community.
The work is physically demanding and work experience students are expected to work hard whilst on their placements, whatever the weather.
Our animal husbandry work experience placements will take place in one of the following four sections of the zoo:
Aquarium, Bug World, Reptiles: You will work in the three areas mentioned depending on the requirements on the day.
Bird : As well as looking after all the birds on site (including penguins) our bird section is also responsible for the animal stores; this section manages the deliveries of food to the other animal sections within the zoo.
Mammals:We have a number of different areas within the mammal section of the zoo. You may be working in Twilight World, Monkey Jungle, Zona Brazil or the islands on the lake. We do not allow under any circumstances work experience with our gorillas or lions.
Presentations:The presentations team have their own animal collection for our daily ‘Amazing Animal’ shows, these include: Racoons, Lemurs, Armadillos, Meerkats and Coati. You will be doing the animal husbandry; helping behind the scenes at the shows and if possible help with the fur seals at Seal and Penguin Coast.
Please state on your application form 1st and 2nd choice of section that you have a particular interest in, we will try to ensure that you spend as much time in that area as possible.
