Grill for Gorillas

Every year Bristol Zoo Gardens gets involved in campaigns that highlight important conservation issues. All these campaigns give visitors the chance to take part.

This year we launched Grill for Gorillas, a brand new conservation campaign.

From Saturday 20th July, Bristol Zoo Gardens teamed up with the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC-UK) to encourage guests to purchase FSC certified products for their summer barbeques.

Unsustainable wood extraction is one of the biggest threats to biodiversity worldwide, linked to habitat destruction in forests where species such as the western lowland gorilla live. The FSC certification system offers consumers the ability to identify, purchase and use wood products which have been sourced from well-managed forests.

Activities took place throughout the summer holidays, tying in with the reopening of our Gorilla House. From a new zoo trail to barbeque demonstrations, FSC games to animal talks, the campaign promises to be interactive and fun for all the family!

A successful summer for the Grill for Gorillas campaign:
