BCSF’s project ‘A participatory conservation programme for the Comoro Islands’ is working to conserve remaining forest habitats and terrestrial biodiversity on the island of Anjouan. The project focuses on helping the rural population to improve the sustainability of their land management and use of natural resources. The project uses an innovative participatory approach which encourages rural Comorians to analyse the agricultural and environmental problems they face in order to find and implement appropriate solutions.
Within the Comoros the project is known as Engagement Communautaire pour le Développement Durable (ECDD). Komori ya leo na meso is the project’s Comorian slogan which translates as ‘The Comoros of today and tomorrow’.
