Bristol Zoo Gardens goes pumpkin potty

Bristol Zoo Gardens’ first Pumpkin Festival got of to a glowing start with over 50 pumpkins entering into the Bristol Zoo Gardens ‘Pumpkin carving competition’.

The judging panel - Kaycia Brown and Summer Thyme Murfin, winners of the 2004 Future West/St. Paul’s Garden competition; Mark Owen, ITV West Presenter and Emma Price from Slush Puppie sponsors of the prizes – faced a difficult task when choosing the winning pumpkins.

Suzanne Patrick, Pumpkin Festival Coordinator, said “It is amazing to see the range of designs and judging the competition was a very difficult decision. The children who have entered have clearly enjoyed the challenge over the half term and we have also received some great adult entries.”

Kasey MacDonald (2 year) won the Best decorated pumpkin (under 6 years). Runners up Sean (5 years) and Ryan Parry (2 years) received an Animal Adoptions and George Airs (3 years ) received an Annual Membership to the Zoo.

Jake Jefferies-Mead (10 year) winner of Best children’s carving (6 – 14years) received a colour television. Runners up Abigail Galbraith (8 years) received an Animal Adoptions and James Fraser (7 years)) received an Annual Membership to the Zoo.

Winner of the adult carving competition was Paul Airs who receives a fantastic JVC stereo.

The event is part of the Bristol Festival of Nature and has been kindly sponsored by Slush Puppie.
